afternoon scones

Scones with jam and cream seemed like a good idea..

Inspired by Nigella I rolled up my sleeves and made them by hand instead of using a mix master.

I rubbed the butter and flour between finger tips until a breadcrumb like consistency was achieved.

Then mixed in the milk and egg gently by hand the old-fashioned way.

Employed a dusted rolling pin..

Oops, rolled them too thin today! (..Grandma made them thicker so the cutter would 'sink' into the soft dough).

Arranged the little discs on a shiny new Anolon baking tray. Painted tops with milk and baked for about 15 minutes in a moderately hot oven..

Brushed excess flour from apron..sleeves.. hair.. and a passing pet.. (baking-by-hand is such fun).

Ding goes the timer!

Finally we cool scones on a wire rack and sandwich together with jam and cream.

Yum!
